Hurricanes, politics, and violence … Oh my. It seems to me as if our country has created itself a storm that only grows larger and larger as each new opinion comes to the surface. People would much rather kill each other rather than to hear the other sides point of view. They are even going so far as to blame their neighbors for the weather we’ve been having with Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Florence.
When everyone in our country seems to be determined to hate, hurt and kill one another, what is the answer that will bring around restoration and revival in the hearts of our people?
Even believers in Christ are struggling to know what to do to help our country. But what we need to know is that we already have all the answers we need. We are God’s people, and He has given us all we need in order to live purposefully in this season.
It’s no surprise that we can find all the answers we need in the Word of the Living God. But reading the Scriptures alone isn’t enough to make the kind of impact we were destined for. The way we are going to help our country is by believing, sharing and proclaiming the Word of God. We can begin to cement this belief by changing our confession from one of despair and disbelief to one of trust in our unwavering, faithful God. Instead of engaging with forces around us that foster fear instead of faith, we should make this our daily declaration over ourselves, over our country, and over this season:
We are God’s people! This is God’s place! This is God’s time!
These three straightforward affirmations are what we should be proclaiming every day in our own lives.
‘We Are God’s People!’
When a nation has no problem destroying an unborn child’s life, destroying a man’s reputation and revealing a woman’s private pain publicly, we must remind ourselves that we are God’s people.
“For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand” (Ps. 95:7).
We are not sinners because we sin. We sin because we are all sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God. Morality will not save us. Christian universalism will not save us. There is heaven and hell, life and death, wheat and tares, good seed and bad seed, and blessing or cursing. There is right, and there is wrong. And religion will not save us. There is only thing, only one person who can save us. It is time to call on the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth and lay hold of our spiritual inheritance.
‘This Is God’s Place!’
“For kingship belongs to the Lord, and He rules among the nations” (Ps. 22:28).
Are you ready to do battle against the forces of darkness on behalf of this extraordinary nation? If so, it’s time to remind the enemy that he’s not welcome here, and this declaration is an effective battle cry.
There are many who believe this nation has lost the favor of God, but I don’t. We are—now and always—one nation under God. It is a country filled with many who are crying out daily for before the throne of God for a fresh awaking of the Holy Spirit.
This last week as I watched all the overwhelming pain again rising to the top of the news and political dialogue, I couldn’t help but pray that the words “God bless America, land that I love” would be more than an anthem to us. May they be our solemn petitions to God on behalf of this extraordinary nation.
‘This Is God’s Time!’
I believe God is getting ready for an end-time explosion of His power. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” And we are entering a season of mighty outpouring.
Like the seven virgins in the parable, it is imperative that we remain vigilant and prepared for the Lord to move and to lead us with specific instructions about how He wants us to affect change. Read the Word every day. Pray every day. Witness every day. Go to church every week. Continue to declare God’s sovereignty in your life, in this nation and in this season.
And always, always vote.
