For over 20 years in America, we have seen a growing resistance to the kingdom of God. The prevailing thought seems to be; “We will accept you, but only if you quit being so bold with your faith. Behave and be quiet, and then we will give you a peaceful place in the corner.”
This past year there, I have seen the prompting of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of many Christians around the United States for a spiritual awakening to break out and produce national reception of a mighty move of God.
How do we as leaders move our nation, our communities and our congregations from being resistant to being receptive? I believe that answer lies in our brokenness of our own hearts.
On the cover of my book, Created to Believe, are the three phrases, “Be Bold,” “Be Brave” and “Be Brilliant.” I believe these three qualities are to be expected in the life of every Spirit-empowered believer who wants to be used by God to change their nation. You and I are created to believe, and in the midst of that belief we are given the Supernatural tools we need to be bold, brave and brilliant. But in order for our hearts to possess these qualities, there must be brokenness.
Without brokenness, our boldness becomes brash, harsh and even arrogant. Initially, brashness may look and feel good. People may even think it is our anointing, but the longer it goes, the greater the harshness and damage it will produce.
We must be broken in our hearts to every one of our own desires and live solely for the desires of God.
Throughout the Word of God, we see a continual stream of leaders who chose to put God’s will above their own. As the power of the Holy Spirit births God’s boldness in their lives, we invariably see courageous action produced into a heart that is brave and a mind that is brilliant.
God’s calling on their lives was evidenced by their brokenness to their own wills.
Greatness in their lives flowed from a decision to be broken by humbling themselves before the One True Living God. With no hesitation, while sometimes in doubt, and often with fear and frequently fighting condemnation, they embraced heaven’s will, discarding their own.
Where does spiritual greatness start? At the point of brokenness.
Matthew 5:3 informs us that the kingdom belongs to the broken. God will never reject a broken and contrite heart (Ps. 51:17).
Spiritual awakening starts and ends with the confidence that God will not reject the broken for it is there that the kingdom is released. The kingdom at work in our lives produces genuine boldness and remarkable brilliance.
The voice of the Holy Spirit is calling us to be the leaders that God designed us to be. It’s time to lead our nation into a supernatural revival.
Today, I encourage you to break your own desires, and instead live boldly, bravely and brilliantly.
